Post 2 - Questions

1. What was a knight's funeral like?
Knights did not have a traditional funeral.
2. What was the average population of an army?
Army populations varied, it all depended on the kingdom.
3. How long did it take a blacksmith to forge a sword?
It depended on lots of things. The sword size, the technology, and the assistance. A simple short sword would take about 8-10 hours to forge.
4. How many days did a siege typically last?
It depended on the power of either army, the defenses, etc.
5. What was the longest battle in Medieval history?
The Hundred Year's War.
6. How common were battles?
This varied on the politics, the arguments, etc.
7. How did the most popular siege weapons work?
There isn't really a siege engine that is the most popular. The battering ram was used a lot though. This was simply a log covered and hung in a frame, which was used to batter down walls and doors. Another popular siege engine was the catapult. This was used to sling large objects onto castles. Another popular siege engine was the siege tower. This was a large tower on wheels, which could be level with castle walls. People on the tower could simply hop onto the castle wall when the tower was level with it.
8. What did an army eat during a siege?
This all depends on the food available. During a siege, farmers were ordered to burn everything down and take all of their animals with them to the castle, to stop armies from having food to eat.
9. How did a siege work?
Armies would attack a castle, and fight until they were fought off, a side surrendered, or everyone was killed or taken prisoner.
10. What were common causes of war?
Thrones, Power, Women, etc.
11. What were some of the most important wars of Medieval history?
The Hundred Year's War, The Crusades, The Fall of Rome, War of The Roses, and some others.
12. What was the most popular weapon of the Medieval Ages?
A single handed sword.
13. What was a major battle of the Medieval Ages?
The Barons War, Where the Barons defeated King John.
14. How many weapons would an average knight carry?
This depends on the knight's wealth and how much he could carry. 
15. How many wars happened in the Medieval Ages?
There were many wars in the Medieval Ages.
16. How heavy was the typical armor that knights would wear?
About 45 pounds if it is made by tempered steel.
17. How talented did children have to be to become a page?
They need to be in a noble family.
18. How many people die in an average siege?
This all depends on the population and power of either side.
19. What were some common weapons?
The sword, axe, bow, lance, dagger, etc.
20. Were animals besides horses used in medieval warfare?
Elephants and Pigs were used in Medieval Warfare
21. How heavy do war horses usually weigh?
About 1 ton.
22. What armor do horses wear in battles?
Horses wear metal, steel, and sometimes cloth around their head and body.
23. How did the training of knights work?
A child would become a page, then upgrade to a squire, then upgrade to a knight.
24. What were some diseases armies used to spread during a siege?
This varies, but a couple major diseases in the Medieval Ages that might have been spread were the Black Death and Small Pox.
25. What rank in the royal family could declare war?
The King is the main person who can declare war, everyone else could do it, but it was mostly rebellion.
26. Who were some of the most famous knights?
There were many knights, and a lot were famous.
27. How many knights were in Arthur's Round Table?

28. What was the first war of the Medieval Ages?
This question can't be answered, for their were many wars in Medieval History and their could be wars we have never heard of.
29. What is the history of the Battering Ram?
1. The battering ram was a log.
2. The log was suspended in slings.
3. The head was flat.
4. The head had bronze or iron.
5. The head had bands of metal.
6. The head was a statue of a ram's head
7. It was suspended in ropes or chains which hung from a frame above it.

9. It was updated with a protective frame which prevented the ram from being ruined.
10. It was suspended by ropes and chains from the protective frame
11. Levers, ropes, rollers, pulleys, and winches were used to make it more powerful.
30. When was the bill invented?
The bill was used by farmers before battle, it is not sure when it was invented.
31. How did people learn about Medieval Warfare?
Literature, Artifacts, Folklore, etc.
32. Are weapons from the Medieval Ages still used modernly?
Knives, Swords, Bows, and other weapons are still used today.
